Like I said, personal preference. I have a Noctua air cooler on my i7-6800k desktop machine that I would put up against all but the biggest liquid coolers out there. You also won't find liquid coolers on production servers.

Hey guys, Some news. I just received the new HW altogether. Stupid Mistake: forgot the CPU12V X/ Off course it wasn't working that way. Quickly fiddling 12V from an adapter to the CPU made the system work (even with a 20pin rather than 24 pin ATX PSU…

Ummm... because I didn't know there was an OMV iso? DOH! You are exactly correct that the original purpose was to drain the swamp. OMV on the Raspberry Pi was just too slow. And my Raid kept disappearing. So, lessons learned: 1) Don't use RAID…

In your first post you write that you want to install OMV on a spare PC. Why don't you use the ISO? It is easier.

Do you have the error messages from the beginning? Looks like a buggy firmware to me. However I do not know if that ACPI message has impct on your network reliability. You might try ACPI=off temporarily as boot parameter and see what happens.…

If not really necessary I'd avoid raid 5 and instead do daily backups. Striping a few drives if you need a bigger on is OK, then have a huge hd for backup purposes (rsync or there's an urbackup plugin). Raid 1 or 5 I'd only use if high availability is…
