  • LDAP / Active Directory Sumary

There are quite a few different active directory or ldap servers out there. They can provide user access and authentication to omv. There are many threads going back to the early days of omv. There is even a plugin. The biggest issue in most threads is some setting needs to be tweaked. Debian now has two packages that can now detect many settings, sssd and realmd. Maybe others too? This should solve many of those issues. If someone updated the plugin or rewrote that would be awesome. For referen…

  • This came from liviu.stefanescu in a conversation. He could not post it for some reason. [list] Hello donh, I was able to combine latest OMV 4.1.8.2-1 with Zentyal 5.0.10 by following this info: Guide how to join OpenMediaVault 3.x in an Active Directory domain I had some issues and I'm sending to you what took me some time to figure out, I can't post in that very useful thread. a. This information wasn't clear for me: Set the Workgroup field to DOMAIN (uppercase, and match the word before the f…

What kind of ldap server are you connecting to? The plugin is actually quite old. There are a couple of threads using sssd and realmd. forum.openmediavault.org/index…Directory-LDAP-Revisited/ forum.openmediavault.org/index…-Active-Directory-domain/

  • Do you see it in the web ui? Storage > Disks If so click mount. If not do you see the disk in fdisk -l? If not check cables etc. If you see it add it to ?etc/fstab.

  • Not sure what hardware you are on. Old Dell and maybe some other servers had an "os install" setting in the bios. This showed the os install only 256MB of ram. Never had to use it but it drove me crazy once. Always wondered why they would do that but maybe you found out why. Anyway maybe you could remove as much ram as you can. Or do a debian minimal install and partition the diskd the way you want. Then install omv.

  • What kind of raid controller are you using? If it is onboard you might try using mdadm.

Proxmox is a good free debian based hyper-visor. Not sure about passing sound card threw to windows tho. I think it may be possible. You can also pass the video card to windows. If you are planning to use zfs, do it on proxmox and assign what you need to omv. Zfs is very stable on proxmox and not so much on omv.

  • sssd and realmd are a more modern way of using ad of all flavors. They discover most settings automatically. Getting settings wrong seems to be the driving force for these two packages. It would be really nice if they could be built into a plugin. I don't have the skills to do that and no one with the skills has stepped up. Couple of links to look at. First one is mine and I keep threatening to update it. Works on windows and a few others. It only uses sssd. I wrote a script there. I added some …

  • Hard to guess how you got it working from here. sssd has some cache options in it's config file. If i remember winbind does too. A few details might get a better guess.

  • Not sure how you set this up but there are some cache setting that might be of help.

Does external dns point to your external ip address?

  • Great work. Do you have the skills to write a plugin? Unfortunately I don't. The goal being to get it as a part of OMV. I have a thread for windows ad and seems to work for a few others types. forum.openmediavault.org/index…-LDAP-Revisited/?pageNo=4 I haven't had time to work on it much since. Thanks
