  • That's the same thing I was getting with my usb drives and usb flash drives. Same error with 4.1.3 ISO. I thought about just installing 3.x over one of the other drives, but since mine is working I didn't bother to do that. So it does seem to be an issue with the iso or debian installer which is the same one I used. Then again I had iso installed problems with ubuntu in the past which are very similar to what this version is doing.

  • If I remember correctly you must clean your drive first, make the share as usual and do the rights to whatever user. I'm just going from the top of my head here, but once all that is done, then you should see it. I'm not sure if you've done all the first steps, but wiping or cleaning a new drive is necessary before the drive can be used.

I like your setup. That looks really nice.

  • Well I'm getting that feeling too. Anyway I tried installing omv on a separate 8 gig flash drive and and 8 gig sd card. It didn't work, the program said that it was probably due to the size of the disk. Go figure. In any case. I didn't use that program suggested, I just used the boot disk I had, so that could be the reason. I don't know since I haven't used it that way. I decided to give it a rest for now and just put my 3.x back on the same usb hub and new usb3 cable and everything is working a…

  • Got it. I just thought maybe there might be something that may help with my issue. Thanks.

  • Hi, yes it's working I haven't done anything with it, I just took it out and use two other hard drives. No I have not done the usb thumb drive, but I forgot to ask. Is 4.1.3 the latest stable version? I ask because on the blog I see 4.1.7 but there are no other downloads higher than 4.1.3. openmediavault.org/?page_id=1271 sourceforge.net/projects/openmediavault/files/GPL/4.x/

  • Okay, I went ahead and posted a few more screenshots. I have now tried both the old usb 2 and new usb 3 cable and OVM just won't work. The hardware is working. I have reset the bios and also went ahead and updated it, but it's still a no go on the hard drive. I did redo my boot disk just in case too.

  • Well you were right. Even though it took me a while to find the darn cable. I changed it and the system finally installed without issue. Unfortunately the motherboard won't pick up the usb for whatever reason after I reboot. I then plugged it into the new cable and I get something about not having a system on the drive or something like that. So this is the only way the usb drive will show up, on the new cable but not the old one. I still have to use the old one to install it though which is rea…

  • Yes, you are correct about the cable. Now that I think about it, I used the older style cable when I first installed the OS. Hmmm. I may have to try that cable again to see if that works. I can't remember if I had the usb 3 hub or not, but that's the reason I went ahead and plugged the cable straight to the back usb 3 port. Tryin that old cable is the only thing I didn't think about doing. I may try it a little later. I want to take a break since I have been working on it for a bit. I could use …

  • Hi guys. I have been trying to install the new version on a brand new hard drive so that I still have the first one as a backup just in case. I'm glad I did this because I have not been able to get this new version installed so I have put my old one back in. So here's what I have done so far and where I have been getting stuck. As you will see I have tried several different things and nothing seems to work. So maybe I'm just missing something. jaimenow.blogspot.com/p/open-media-vault-3x-to-4x.ht…

Thanks tux. It didn't work the way you see it there, so I think I need to change a couple more settings to make it work. I'll keep playing with it, I just haven't done it yet. I need to change a couple more items to make it run.

Hi guys. I'm back because I was trying to test the antivirus job but it didn't turn on even though I have that set up. So basically I was wondering if the AM could be added to the times as these aren't clear. I'm not sure if this is using the 12 hour or 24 hour time. Also, if I have the * on, does this mean every day of every month or does it mean that it just won't work until I choose a day for example. I'm guessing it's every day and or month since I don't want to have to choose if I just want…

Cool. I'm not sure where that's in, but I also can't look at anything since my instance of the urbackup plugin is MIA unfortunately. I don't want to start messing around since the rest of the nas is working fine. But I'll be sure to take a look at this again if I can figure out a way to bring it back.

Okay, It looks like this is the reason I can't install urbackup again. Does anyone know how to properly fix this? I was about to do a remove on that old file, but I thought I ask here before doing anything since it says that a lot of other stuff will be removed which didn't look right.

Hey donut, I don't think you'll be able to easily do that. Well, I haven't figure this out myself yet. I just got this from what I have read so I may be wrong.

  • Oh it's cool. I was just poking around to see what else used that sqlite3 since I wanted to see where those dependencies may have also been used. And since I did installed and uninstalled it, it just made sense to look at that too. So that's all I was doing. Like I said, the rest of the nas seems fine so I won't worry about this too much as I am not using either. I was just trying to see what I could find.

Just install the plugin, set up the accounts for the users like anything else and make sure that you can access it from outside. Works just like outlook webmail if you will. You're just logging in through the web. So each user just uses their login account. Now there may be a bit more to it in omv with more than one user, so you may want to test that first because I'm not sure if they will all go into the same webdav folder or not if you use the individual home folder option which I think I saw …

  • I see. I decided to see what else uses the sqlite 3 and it turns out that plexmedia uses that too. This is something I had also installed and removed. So I tried re-installing it in order to see if doing so would let me install urbackup. Unfortunately I get an error message when trying to install plexmedia too. So that will not install again either. After closing the window I get the following error.

I guess I'll chime in here a bit since I find this thread a bit interesting. I'm curious about this "Also, I hear people say SMB is very insecure, but I know of a lot of Universities/Corporations that have clients map network drives through SMB" because I know that if you're within the network, you should always be able to map a network drive. You said you know they are doing it that, but how are they doing it? From outside a vpn seems to be more reasonable or webdav as mentioned before. You did…

  • That's interesting when you said RDP, I kept thinking of just the desktop and thought I look at this. As you can see that plugin is not installed. I guess I could install it and un-install it and see what happens. I'm just going to leave it alone for now. The nas is still working fine so I won't mess with it.
