OMV uninstalled after omv-update

There must have been an dependency problem. Do you have a desktop environment installed?

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.10 | compose 7.1.2 | k8s 7.0-6 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

Hard to say. Look through the logs in /var/log/apt/ and /var/log/dpkg.log.

  • I think the easiest solution it's to reinstall the so.
    I have just 2 questions.
I have an ssd for the system, is the default installer format a good method for format? or could it damage my ssd?
and, what's the best practice to update the system, I used to use apt-get/aptitude update and upgrade but i don't want this to happen aggain.
    Thanks rye!

    I would do the following:
    - Use the OMV iso to install on SSD
    - Fully update the system using the web interface
    - Install omv-extras
    - I recommend installing openmediavault-flashmemory

If your /etc/openmediavault/config.xml file is still there, you might be ok. Don't you have a backup?

  • Did you mean /etc/openmediavault/config.xml ? Yes, it's still there. Disks are also normaly mounted, samba is working, etc..

So what should I do to install openmediavault 1.x back and keep my config, shares, users, files on OS partition..

I have an older backup, I think it's crated with backup plugin from extras, but restoring from it would be my last resort.

You could try to reinstall openmediavault again then:

    cp /etc/openmediavault/config.xml /root/
    apt-get install openmediavault

  • I get:

To note, this is the first time I ran mov-update, normally I was updating through web console or with apt-get upgrade.

You upgraded to Jessie. You need to fix the items in this thread before using omv-update. And no, you can't downgrade. I would rsync the files create by the backup plugin to your os drive and hope it works.

  • What I was doing was following official upgrade instructions from here:

    Upgrade to OMV 2.x

This thread should definitely be updated with safer instructions..

I planned to do fresh backup before upgrade (after update to latest 1.x, but things went wrong on that step).

The newest version of omv checks for the problem and that is what the instructions were written for. Unfortunately, you were not on the latest version because of the fairly rare bug. I will make a note on the guide.
