openmediavault-remotedesktop 1.0

  • I just tried installing the openmediavault-remotedesktop 1.0 plugin, but how does it work?
Shouldn't I be able to connect using Windows RDP client? I try to connect using RDP client but the remote desktop server doesn't seem to exist?

Are you trying to connect over the internet or locally? The windows RDP client works just fine.

  • I'm connecting locally using the default port (3389), and I've tried all the encryption levels.

    I'm getting this:

    Edit.
Oh, I did even try running a port scanner, but it does'nt detect port 3389 being open on the openmediavault box.

What is the output of: ps aux | grep rdp

  • The output looks for ps aux | grep rdp looks like this:

    Code
    root 5531 0.0 0.0 29252 716 ? S 14:00 0:00 /usr/sbin/xrdp-sesman
    root 8312 0.0 0.0 8996 868 pts/0 S+ 14:13 0:00 grep rdp

    What does this mean?

It means the xrdp service isn't running. What is the output of: service xrdp start

  • The output of: service xrdp start looks like this

    Code
Starting Remote Desktop Protocol server : xrdpIt looks like xrdp is allready running,
if not delete the xrdp.pid file and try again
     sesman.

I was also suprised that ther is no checkbox to enable/disable the RDP service in the WebUI.
Maybe I should try to uninstall/reinstall the Remote Desktop plugin?

    Try: service xrdp restart

    If that doesn't work, try:
    rm /run/xrdp/xrdp.pid
    service xrdp start

    Rebooting might help.

I never got around to adding an enable checkbox.

Normally it doesn't. Just installed in a VM. Deleted the pid file and executed the start command and it worked. No reboot necessary.

    Hi,
Will this plugin (remotedesktop) work on OMV 1.0.29? The thread title indicates it is for OMV 2.0, but I thought it is worth asking in case it might work in 1.0.
    Thanks!

That is just a tag. You can only have one version tag on a thread.

Yes, it works on OMV 1.x versions of 1.18 and newer. I hope you are really aren't still on 1.0.29 and that is just the version you started with. I do recommend updating to 2.x since 1.x is not maintained anymore.

Thanks. Sadly, I do still have a 1.0.29 system that has been running for a long time without a hitch. I'm now setting up a 2.1 box that will mirror it and when that's all done, I plan to upgrade the first one. It's easy to get lazy when things are running so well ;)
