AFP Returns Error when trying to activate

Hi,

I've changed my nas from Freenas to Openvault, have to say it's much more better than my old system and thanks for developers and testers for this wonderfull solution.

My problem is about AFP, when i try to activate Apple Filing system returns below Error message ;

On the dashboard at Services tab Apple Filling's status sometimes Green sometimes Red and MAC Users acn not access to AFP shares. I'm using the latest version and Update settings as Automatically Download and Install. I'm very rookie about Unix based systems, what is causing this problem and how i can fix it ? System information as attached.

In afp is normal the error enabling the first time sometimes. Try and reboot and enable the service again, if is not enabled already when the system comes back again.

i've allready tried to restart but no luck, i've even deleted all other shares (Samba and so on) and tried again with rebooting but it wasn't helped, samba/cifs works perfectly though.

Can you start the service manually in cli ?

update-rc.d netatalk defaults
service netatalk start

now i've tried via SSH to start service as you adviced, now service is running, but when i create a AFP share,after applying changes service is stopping. Actually SMB or CFIS is enough for me but i want to do is hide Shares which belong to Apple users, i mean Windows users should not reach or see shares related to Mac users on network that's why i'm trying to use AFP.

Stop the service with

service netatalk stop

check that now if any afp process is running

ps ax | grep afpd
and ps ax | grep metad

if any of those are still up, kill the process. Then try enable the service in the webui again.

still no luck, as soon as you create an AFP share, service crushes immediately, password protected SMB shares is good enough for me, i'll try to find a solution for AFP once i've free time to deal with.

When you have time, try to add the shares with the server dissbled.
