apt-get update 404 errors

  • I'm getting this error message when trying to update OMV through the web interface. Unfortunately, I can't think of what triggered it.

I'm guessing sunet simply isn't mirroring what I need any more? How do I change to some other mirror?

  • The server is down... Wait or change the mirror to an available one

Thank you for the reply! I'm trying to change to ftp.se.debian.org instead, but I'm having some trouble.

My sources.list looks like this now:

I basically just tried to change the servers, and leave the rest, but apparently I'm still doing something wrong, because now I'm still getting some 404's:

  • comment the deb-src

Through trial and error, I've concluded that it's both the "wheezy/updates" ones (as opposed to "wheezy-updates"), that 404's. Both the binaries and the src. All the other ones are fine.

What's the difference between /updates and -updates? Are they both needed? I'm guessing /updates existed on the sunet server before it went down, but can I ignore it now?

Also your sources.list doesn't look ok, this is mine

    Code
deb http://mirror.crucial.com.au/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free

    deb http://mirror.crucial.com.au/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib non-free

    deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free

After you change you can install the utility and change the servers.

the security.debian repo doesn't have local mirrors with DNS, so don't change

  • Thank you for your help! I changed to security.debian.org for the /updates, and now everything works. Speed is not crucial, but thank you for the tip about netselect-apt. Will take a look at it!
