• I'd like to install OMV on my desktop machine to try it out (it currently runs Ubuntu, Win7 and Win8). I've created a partition using GParted. The new partition (15 gb) shows in Ubuntu.

    How do I install OMV on this new partition? When I choose "Install the system" I am only given the choice of installing on the full hard disk drive (300 gb). I assume this will erase everything else?

    Am I doing something wrong, is it not possible to do what I am trying? Should I install another boot loader, or can I use the same as for Ubuntu?

    Sorry for the newbie questions. I have of course searched this forum and the web for answers, but I haven't found any yet. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    If you just want to try it, I would install in Virtualbox.

    omv 7.0-32 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.9 | compose 7.0.9 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

  • Is it not possible to install it on part of a HDD? The smallest HDD I have is 300 gb, which I would guess is a bit much for just the operating system, if I can't put anything else on the disk.

    The installer is set to use the one disk without allowing customizing. If you are just using it for testing, a usb stick would work.

  • Cool.

    However, I am now stuck at another point in this process. While installing Virtualbox on Ubuntu I ran into problems, I am getting some Qt warnings when I launch Virtualbox. I've created a thread at the Virtualbox forums. I also tried to install Virtualbox on my Win7 partition, seemed to work alright. However, OMV just hangs when I press enter at "Intall", it never progresses from there. This is really giving me a hard time :(

    I've never had it stall installing in Virtualbox and I use virtualbox on Win7 all the time. Maybe the usb stick would work better,
