Hello guys and girls (?)
at first let me apologize for my bad English. I hope you can understand me well?
If somebody like to help me, perhaps in German, if possible - but English is also possible.
I´m a new Linux user - but have experiences into the Windows - world and have also hardware experiences.
That´s why it´s a little bit difficult for me to understand some things which are explained here ... it´s a new world for me. I´m sorry.....
My project is a new server / NAS; based on:
- Supermicro X11SAE-F-O
- i5-6500 - processor
- 16GB ECC Ram
- 12TB WD Red in Snapraid /AUFS (4x3TB for data - 2x3TB for parity -> "Raid 6"
- SSD Samsung SM951 (PCIe3x4) for the system etc.
I´ld like to use the system for:
- NAS / media streaming / Plex - server
- Kodi (?)
- Virtualisation (Vt-d) -> Windows ... to have some playing options for my son
- central backup station for the PC´s / laptops .... my man, my son and myself
I thought about a system running only OMV first .... but i think it needs more flexibility.
That´s why i thought it could be possible to use an Debian 8.x (my favorite is Linux Mint Debian Edition - LMDE 2 ... because of the great community and get some help) as regular OS .... and than put OMV into that system.
I could run Virtualbox for Windows etc. into that.
I thought the driver base is better that style .... because of my new SSD (no option-ROM!) etc.?
My questions are:
- is that a good way?
- how can i make that possible (i found some links: [Guide] Howto install OpenMediaVault on Debian 8.x (Jessie) TESTING - EXPERIMENTAL) ... but i don´t know, if i understand it well (?)
- or could I use only OMV and run Virtualbox from that with all options ?
- or is it better to run another regular OS for DAU´s like me ... i thought over Debian / LMDE because of the stability of the system (Debian has a smaller base, but stable .... Ubuntu / Linux Mint is greater)
The whole project is displayed under technikaffe.de
Could somebody help me?
Thank you for your support
