Safe to upgrade kernel to 4.x?

Hello,

Just wondering if it is safe to compile a 4.x LTS kernel, and update the system kernel from 3.20.

What are your expectations on a newer kernel?
Some people do build their own kernel, mostly btrfs users using raid56
In Debian you can install backport kernel 3.16 which is higher than the default 3.2, and covers some hardware driver modules not present at 3.2

You probably will encounter some issues compiling the newer kernel though, especially with libc6...

I was able to compile the 4.2.6 kernel (jessie-backports) on wheezy with no problems. The kernel had issues on one of my boxes though. You can try it if you want but be warned (headers and image debs are there).
