difference rsyapshot-rsync

  • What is the different between rsync and rsnapshot?
    I think I can make with rsync sync-versions, too?! snapshots are different? And how mutch more i need in rsnapshot space vor purhaps my picturelibery?
    Anyone have experience with rsnapshots?


    EDIT: can i restore a snapshot from the gui or must i do it over the cli :?:

    rsnapshot creates hard links to file that haven't changed. So, it uses a lot less space than multiple rsync jobs. I have used it for a long time. Works great.


    If you share the shared folder via samba, nfs, or whatever, you could see the directory structure of copy whatever you need. So, no cli needed.

    I wouldn't share the backup-folder via samba to secure it from direct access.
    If needed only as read-only. Too much ransom-trojans actually.

    You both must interpret that as I stopped using it. That is not what that means. It means I have been using it for years and still use it. I highly recommend it.

    That is actually what I recommended in another post. Myself, I have a backup server and backups on tape. Plus, my systems are running linux so I am not too worried about crypto viruses.
