virtualbox - how to use it from the command line

  • hi

    i have an hp server with omv and the virtualbox plugin.

    i want to shutdown the virtual machine for backup purposes via script.
    the tool i need is vboxmanager.

    with VBoxManager list vms i should see all running machines, but i cant see nothing. even if i work with sudo
    i suppose thats because the virtualbox is running with an different user.

    being root i can change the passwort of the user vbox - but will this bring me in trouble (does virtualbox and the vbxadmin continue working with the changed password)?

    how can i control the machines by using vboxmanager?

    thx in forward

    You can change the password but you shouldn't need to. Try:

    Code
    su vbox -c "vboxmanage list vms"

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.10 | compose 7.1.2 | k8s 7.0-6 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

    Good to hear :) I was running as root so I didn't have sudo in there.
