APT-GET error Every Day - Can't Fix

  • Hi,

I've read many other posts about this problem, but none of them seem to fix it for me.

Every morning I get emails from CRON-APT with the following error and have for the last few months:

    Code
CRON-APT RUN [/etc/cron-apt/config]: Sun Mar 27 07:35:15 CDT 2016CRON-APT SLEEP: 824, Sun Mar 27 07:48:59 CDT 2016CRON-APT ACTION: 0-updateCRON-APT LINE: /usr/bin/apt-get -o Acquire::http::Dl-Limit=25 update -o quiet=2W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/contrib/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/non-free/source/Sources 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/contrib/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]W: Failed to fetch http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/squeeze/non-free/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found [IP: 128.30.2.26 80]E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I also get this error when I try to run a manual update from the GUI, this is just the start of the error:

    Code
Failed to execute command 'export LANG=C; apt-get update 2>&1': Ign file: Release.gpg Ign file: Release Ign file: Translation-en Hit

I've attached my /etc/apt/sources.list and contents of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/.

  • The URL point to Squeeze which is Debian 6. If I not wrong this Debian Release is now archived. Debian stable is now Jessie, old-stable is wheezy. Check the Debian mirror you use for the correct URL for the Squeeze Archive URL.

While I suggest you upgrade, squeeze is now called squeeze-lts and needs to be updated in /etc/apt/sources.list.

Is this upgrading OMV and Debian or just Debian? Also, how do you go about running the upgrade? I didn't think OMV3 was stable yet.

Judging by your output, I thought you were still on OMV 0.5 (Squeeze). When I looked at your zip file, I see you just have the old miller's script repo file. Remove it. rm -f /etc/apt/sources.list.d/openmediavault-millers.list and then omv-aptclean.

If I were you, I would remove the ubuntu ppa from your sources.list as well...
