WebGui no longer operational

  • I was reading the many posts for the WebGui no functioning properly and could not locate one that resolved my NAS condition. A few days ago I lost the WebGui but retain access to the server on the network, PLEX and Mumble are operational still.
    The error I receive from the attempted WebGui is:

    Error #3008:
    exception 'OMVException' with message 'Failed to load configuration (Fatal error 4: Document is empty (line=1, column=1); Fatal error 4: Start tag expected, '<' not found (line=1, column=1))' in /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config.inc:577
    Stack trace:
    #0 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/env.inc(22): require_once()
    #1 /var/www/openmediavault/index.php(23): require_once('/usr/share/php/...')
    #2 {main}

    So I log into the the CLI and perform omv-firstaid, in an attempt to change the WebGui port back to 8080. I had to change the port once I started using PLEX, once that plugin was started I got the following from port 80.
    It works!
    This is the default web page for this server.

    The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet.
    Changing it to 8080 worked and had worked for 2 months, till this week.

    Now when I click OK on changing port I get the following errors:

    /etc/openmediavault/config.xml:1.1: Start tag expected, '<' not found

    ^
    /usr/sbin/omv-firstaid: 262: [: -gt: unexpected operator

    Failed to execute RPC (service=WebGui, method=setSettings)

    This has me lost, as if I needed help in that area.

    I am running OMV 2.1 with a thumb drive as boot drive, 5-1TB raid 5 array HD's, 8Gb RAM AMD 3.6Ghz FM2 CPU, MSI A78M-E35 v2 Motherboard.

    There is something wrong with your /etc/openmediavault/config.xml file. What was the last plugin you installed or setting you changed?

    That is bad... You config.xml is empty and there is no backups. Unless you have a backup of your OS drive, you will lose all of your settings.

    Now the odd part, it states Linux NAS 3.2.0-4, I have never upgraded past 2.1, at least to my knowledge.

    2.1 is the OMV version. 3.2 is the kernel version.

    Do the following (as root):

  • Same error as before. I wonder about the files in the raid array. If I were to use a PCIe SSD and remove the Thumb drive as the OS if I were to loose the data in the array. If I wont then I will order one up and install a fresh version of OMV on the SSD and remove the thumb drive as primary. If the array goes array that would mean moving GB's of data prior to doing so. My only concern is being capable of streaming my music while at work, oh and probably the wifes pictures.
