Folder2RAM config

Hi all,

I'm just installed NetData, a system performance monitor, and I would like to add this to folder2ram.

I'm currently using Flashmemory plugin.

Here's netdata directories:

Code

- the daemon at /usr/sbin/netdata
 - config files at /etc/netdata
 - web files at /usr/share/netdata
 - plugins at /usr/libexec/netdata
 - cache files at /var/cache/netdata
 - db files at /var/lib/netdata
 - log files at /var/log/netdata
 - pid file at /var/run

How/where do I add those config files to folder2ram?
/etc/folder2ram/folder2ram.conf

/var/folder2ram/

Depends on how many writes are performed in those directories. I'm guessing /var/log/netdata is probably going to be high writes but /var/log is already in folder2ram. So, nothing to do there. /var/cache/netdata might be high writes but I don't know for sure. I don't think the other directories don't need to be added to folder2ram.

Ok.
Not sure if this matter, the netdata installation is in /opt/netdata.
If I want to add /var/cache/netdata to folder2ram, how would I do it?

The config file is pretty easy. Just add the line:

tmpfs /var/cache/netdata

In here? /etc/folder2ram/folder2ram.conf or the /etc/fstab ?

Memory modesCurrently netdata supports 3 memory modes:


1. [b]ram[/b] where the chart data are purely in memory. Data are never saved on disk.
2. [b]save (the default)[/b] where the data are only in RAM while netdata runs and are saved to / loaded from disk on netdata restart.
3.[b] map [/b]where the data are in memory mapped files. This works like the swap. Keep in mind though, this will have a constant write on your disk. When netdata writes data on its memory, the Linux kernel marks the related memory pages as dirty and automatically starts updating them on disk. Unfortunately we cannot control how frequently this works. The Linux kernel uses exactly the same algorithm it uses for its swap memory.
You can select the memory mode by editing netdata.conf and setting:


[global]
    # ram, save (the default, save on exit, load on start), map (swap like)
    memory mode = save


    # the directory where data are saved
    cache directory = /var/cache/netdata

/etc/folder2ram/folder2ram.conf is the place you want to put it BUT if ram or save mode keeps everything in memory until restart, there is no need to add a folder2ram config
