In am using a Xeon 1226v3 with an AsrockRack E3C226D2I and I built my NAS end 2014. After it was all set up I measured a power consumption around 22-24w in idle with drives spun down and back then c-states and package c-states were working correctly.
Yesterday I discovered that my current idle draw was 40w !? - In the meantime I added a USB HDD and changed the fans, but even if I remove the HDD and the fans it still is 38w idle - which si 14w more than it used to be.
All powertop optimizations are active and the only difference I noticed was that package c-state doesn't really go over C2 (sometimes C3 - like 1-3%).
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this and figure out why the same system is drawing so much more power than initially?
