Optiplex 9010

Hello Guys,

I got Dell Optiplex 9010 for free, and have OMV 2.0 on it now.

What do you think about following specification:
- CPU i5 3470 @ 3.20
- 4GB Ram
- OS HDD Western Digital Blue WD2500AAKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
- Storage 2x Samsung EcoGreen F2 HD154UI 1500 GB (mirror)

I would like to change OS drive to SSD, is this a good idea?

Should work fine. It's a bit overpowered for just a NAS, unless you plan to also use it to run some serious apps or tu use it as a virtualization server.

You should consider its power cost if you plan to run it 24/7. The CPU alone has a TDP of 77W, which is a lot. The entire machine probably runs at 150W or more.

You are right, now I am looking for better CPU for my NAS, could you please suggest any of CPU with lower TDP for LGA1155?

It won't run at 150w. I have a more powerful i7 cpu that idles at 20w. With a fairly new kernel, the system should run under 60 or 70w most of the time. My main xeon server e3-1285L (65W tdp) with 20 spinning disks, 6 SSDs, and 8 120mm fans only pulls 210W most of the time.
