Tutorial OMV 0.4 or 0.5 - howto join windows 2008R2 active directory

  • Hi again.

Here is the french version of the tutorial for OMV 1.0. It has been tested on a fresh install in a Virtual machine.

I found OMV needs a debian package not needed in OMV 0.5 also.

EDIT : English version available : Tutorial OMV 1.0 - how to join an Windows 2008 R2 domain

    = latest setup =
    proxmox VE 6 hypervisor on a J1900 CPU + 8GB RAM
guests : OpenWRT (VM), OMV 5 (VM), Samba 4 domain controller (LXC)
OMV alive since 2011 I guess : never crashed, always upgraded : stronger than my hard drives.

Searching for a P2P online storage solution : must be open source, client side encrypted, quota supprt. Tahoe LAFS is the nearest, but is lacking quota. Would be perfect to build a OMV based, anonymous online storage for backups

  • Hi dethegeek,

everything is working fine now with OMV 1.0.

I started from scratch and followed your new tuto and everything is working like a charm.
There was only a little problem with the ACL. I had to adapt them because I think the mapping was not the same as in OMV 0.5, but this also is done and I'm happy.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • Hi

Sorry for the long delay : i did not receive (again) any email to alter me about your answer.

If you rebuild from scratch your setup, the user mapping between windows and linux worlds is lost, then it will differ probably depending the logins in OMV.

The other method (I validated it for OMV 1.x but still needs to be written) using OpenLDAP permits easily to backup this mapping. I think there must be a way to backup and restore the mapping, but I did not need it yet.
