Too many details missing... What kernel is installed? What kind of system? What type of media is the OS installed on? Did you install another package(s) with the kernel update?

That's not nice. I've really never had any issues with it and it is a lot better than anything Redhat produces...
It is always good to know what kind of machine people are running OMV on. People try it on anything running Debian.
I would boot the Debian ISO (not OMV) and enter rescue mode (chroot). I would update grub and initramfs
update-grub
update-initramfs -u
If that doesn't work, I would be tempted to install the backports kernel from rescue mode.
That is the old kernel. I would install a newer kernel. omv-mkconf omvextrasorg installbackports

I guess I would try reinstalling. Never seen this before except on flash media.
Yep, it should find it and you just mount it in the filesystems tab. If you create the users in a different order, they will get different user ids. So, might have to fix permissions on the raid array.

Yep. On OMV 2.x, the reset permissions tab is installed by omv-extras. On OMV 3.x, it is its own plugin called openmediavault-resetperms (should show up in plugin list after installing omv-extras).
Yep, I run Proxmox with OMV 3.x in a VM. Allows for backups and snapshots.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but you mentioned you saw this on Flash media. I'm having a similar situation and I _am_ booting off USB flash. Do you have any more details on this or how to deal with it?
