[SOLVED] Installation Bootstrap error

  • Hi all, I'm new here and my english is awful.
I'm trying to install OMV on my nas:

    Asrock N3700-itx, 8gb ram, 2x HD WD Red 3tb

During the installation a message appears:

Failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc

    What can I do?
I tried to follow this guide

    http://wiki.openmediavault.org/index.php?title=Installation

but, when I open the shell and write first command (chroot /target), a message appears

chroot: can't execute '/bin/sh' : No such file or directory

Last information: I've installed the iso on a pendrive with unetbootin and I'm installing OMV on another pendrive

    Can someone help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Try OMV 3.x

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

Please put your OMV system details in your signature.
Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • Your problem is just that, you are doing install from pendrive to pendrive. It is a known issue.
I only can sugest either install on harddrive, or get a USB CD/DVD drive and use that to install.
Apparently omv installer gets confused when you do a flash drive to flash drive install and tries to chroot the folder on source drive rather than target.

  • Thanks for the answers.
So if I install from CD to pendrive, it should go well.
I haven't a CD/DVD driver on Nas but I could try with my notebook.
I try and tell you the result.

  • well, if the issue you are having is in fact problem with OMV install confusing source/target drives (and it sounds like it)
than yes using cd/dvd will solve the issue.
also I was thinking more more of using an external Cd/DVD drive on the NAS.
but if you do not have it you can try on your laptop.

what you can also try is check the step after which you get the message and simply pull the source pendrive out.
the thing is that after a certain percent of install process is done source drive is not needed anymore and can be removed safely without install interruption. also, if when you get the error you have an option to try again, just pull out the source drive and try again.

    might work...

PS>> if you want to try the option above please make sure you mark the target drive carefully so you do not pull -it- out by mistake :)

  • Negative. Doesn't work.
I start the installation from an external cd drive connected directly to nas, target pendrive.
    Same error.

    Bootstrap alert
Failure trying to run: chroot /target mount -t proc proc /proc

The installation hangs at base system installation.
    What can I do?
    Some Ideas?
