just as subject says. best/easiest way to check my network speed? I'd prefer to run from the server and not from any of my spare machines.
How to run network Speedtest from OMV?

Speed of local network? try iperf

Seems like that's what I need. I'm in the middle of the install process, stuck on this screen for 10+ minutes now. any suggestions, is it actually done?

You asking for specs?:
Intel i3-4150 CPU

iperf should be installed. Hit ctrl-c and then post the output of: dpkg -l | grep iperf
-
/$ dpkg -l | grep iperf
ii iperf 2.0.5-3 amd64 Internet Protocol bandwidth measuring tool
yes it is, I even attempted to run it, but maybe it isn't what I'm looking for. Seems like iperf is to test speeds between 2 machines, I want to test my general internet speed.
If you got the command, please share, otherwise, thanks for the help, and maybe I'll just stick with going to another machine to find out vs remotely

Why would you need to check internet speed with the server? The only speed tests I have seen use a browser. Not ideal for the server. You could try download any large file with wget to test the download speed.

I personally use a laptop over wifi, and my end user devices are usually Fire TV boxes that peak at 100 mbps. I want to randomly and remotely check I'm getting 150 mbps as Comcast says I am.
I'm just being a geek and want to test things.

I guess you could install the remotedesktop plugin and then iceweasel (renamed firefox) and test it that way.
-
Use the docker tianon/speedtest. Works great. Click Run, then view the logs with log button on the Docker Plugin.
