Problem with vt6421 sata controller and hdds

  • Hi guys.

I’m totally newbie in Linux, and this is my first test with OMV.

I have an old amd xp2000+ with 1,5RAM and 5 HDD (3 IDE and 2 SATA).

As my old motherboard doesn’t support SATA, I have a CONCEPTRONICS sata controller installed on it (chipset VIA VT6421) connected to my 2 sata HDD.

Actually, only 3 of my 5 HDD are visible on openmediavault, these are the IDE old HDD, but I can’t find the 2 SATA HDD.

    What can be the problem?

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks.

Did the setup work with another operating system? The only thing I could find about this card was people having issues when two drives were connected. Maybe try booting with one drive connected? If you could post the output from the following command logged in as root, it would help:

    lsmod | grep via

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

  • Hi.

    Thanks for your answer.

The setup works well with windows xp.

I've tried with the command lspci, and I've got the message: bad command (or something like this). It seems that OMV fedaykin doesn't support this command...

This afternoon, i'll try to execute lsmod | grep via. We'll see...

lspci isn't installed. You need to apt-get install pciutils first.

The module is loaded and should be working. What does fdisk -l show?

Strange... fdisk is showing 4 drives. Maybe it has something to do with the 3 TB drive?? What size is the fifth drive?

  • Hi.

The 3Tb HDD is an USB disk I've just plugged in.

The two sata drives don't work even when the USB drive is not plugged.

I guess the sata_via driver doesn't support your card. You could install the backports 3.2 kernel.
