OMV 2.2.13 will not let me move or delete "you need permission to perform this action"

  • I copied 3GB of pictures from a windows computer to a directory in one of my shares (\\NAS160\Documents\dell 1100\files). Now i want to move them to a dedicated share I called \\NAS160\Photos. The files will only copy not move so I canceled the move.
    Now I cannot move (as before) nor can I delete the old files that were copied.
    I get the message

    you need permission to perform this action

    you require permission from Unix User\1008 to make changes to this file

    I am the only user I assume that it has something to do with file permissions (not privileges because I guess those are different things)
    I cant figure this out has to be some setting I am missing.
    I guess I can move all the files back to my pc and start over

    Didn't give much time to get help. Did you try the reset permissions tab that omv-extras adds?

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

  • Thanks for responding ryecoaaron,
    you are right I was rudely impatient, sorry.

    I have not reset the box yet I was going to go with 3.X too as you suggested in the other post figured I would need to back up for that anyway JIC.
    I have been playing with OMV for a while using different accounts different usernames with different privileges. I think it may be that the files were put on the server by a different machine or a different username so the server thinks those files are owned by that name the problem is I cant remember what name I used in the first place

    I looked for, the reset permissions tab that omv-extras adds? but I don't see that in the list of plug-ins I am not sure how to even add things
    I can SSH in to the Box I can use commands and that kind of stuff. I am used to GUI that is how I have been using Linux, for a little while but I am by no means "good" at Linux yet.

    On OMV 3.x, the reset permissions tab is a separate plugin - openmediavault resetperms.
