Not really a plugin but close enough :) Had to try it out. Install is really for Fedora and most of the guides I found for installing on Debian were for version 6. Here is what I did to get it working (haven't tried transcoding yet and still playing).

    omv 7.0-32 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.9 | compose 7.0.9 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

  • Yup..more or less what I did to install Twonky 7.1.2 Special.

    Intial impressions:

    What I like (so far):

    • Fairly easy to install (would be even easier if someone wrote a plugin  )
    • Easier to use webgui.
    • Media Index presented to client is more intuitive than minidlna
    • The Album View for Videos as it more-or-less maps to my folder structure 1:1
    • The Aggregation feature....good if you have several sources of media scattered around the house (and not all on OMV)
    • Works well with my Samsung TV (better than minidlna)

    What I don't like:

    • Time taken to scan the media (I have a large collection)
    • Trial period is very short...60 days would have been better
    • Confusing product packages...what's TwonkeyManager all about ???
    • $20 price tab...$10 would be reasonable for home users

I agree with your likes and dislikes. I would add to the likes the fact you can view by date. This shows me items recently added and most likely to wathc. I would add to the dislikes that transcoding is not easy to configure (haven't done it yet). I don't understand why they don't have an Ubuntu/Debian installer.

TwonkyManager doesn't make sense to me either but since there is no linux package, it made the decision easy :)

I would check this out but they don't even have a 64 bit package???

Nope :( I didn't like installing ia32-libs and all the dependencies it has... but it does work.

I agree. My past experience with transcoding has been bad. I tried twonky in the past running under WinXP Quad core and the clients struggled to stream the movies because the server could not keep up...and these were only DVD VOB files..i.e. Standard Definition. So for me Trancoding is a non-flyer on my HP-N40L microserver which has low-spec AMD dual-cores. There's no way they can transcode HD on the fly AND stream simultaneously. May be the new s/w is a bit more efficient...may try it.

I don't understand why they don't have an Ubuntu/Debian installer.

Their target market is embedded devices ..i.e. NAS's and as such they sell to OEM's who embed/package the s/w so twonky don't seem to spend much time packaging for individual consumers.

This post is very old and for OMV 0.5 which is based on Debian Squeeze. The ia32 package name has changed. Try apt-get install ia32-libs

  • This package is only in the i386 repository, which is not active by default.

    Code
    dpkg --add-architecture i386
    apt-get update

Then try to install it again.

I just checked on my server running twonky and the only package I can find that may help is: libc6-i386

  • twonky is installed ...
got my version from here (direct link to 7.1.2-special here)
but still not running correctly ...

the lib is located in libgcc1, which is installed ... but only x64, i think (folder /i386-linux-gnu is missing in /libs)
after installing the i386 version via

    Code
    apt-get install libgcc1:i386

twonky runs like a charm ;)

    Strange... I don't have libgcc1:i386 installed. I am using Twonky 7.2 though.

  • Since I use twonky as my main media server right now, I would like to share updated instruction with latest version of twonky installation:

    1. We need to install ia32-libs package and 7zip (as I got some issues to extract with default zip):

    Code
    apt-get install chkconfig ia32-libs
    sudo apt-get install p7zip-full

    2. Creating directory on OMV root and moves there:

    Code
    mkdir /usr/local/twonkymedia
    cd /usr/local/twonkymedia

    3. Download latest twonky media server which could be find here (please be noted that we need Linux i686 glibc version for our installation):

    Code
    wget http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/8.3/twonky-i686-glibc-2.9-8.3.zip

    4. Extract downloaded file by command:

    Code
    7z x twonky-i686-glibc-2.9-8.3.zip

    5. Open .ini file in same directory:

    Code
    nano twonkyserver-default.ini

and add there command for port which will be twonky GUI port for access:

    Code
    suppressmenu=divAutoShare
    httpport=9000

    Save & quit file.

    6. Run script for file and execute after to start up our server:

    Code
    chmod +x twonky.sh
    ./twonky.sh start

    7. Open and to add line for autorun twonky:

    Code
    nano /etc/rc.local

add in file below line and twonky will be loaded automatically after reboot/startup of system.

    Code
    /usr/local/twonkymedia/twonky.sh start

    Save & quit file.

...and that's it. Server is now running and boot up on each server start. Twonky media server now available under GUI on your http://domain.page:9000 port.

Please also keep in mind that above manual prepared for x86 architecture as my system runs on OMV 2.2.5 i386 due to lack of powerful hardware. :) So if need x64 architecture, please download media server and library file in first step accordingly.

    Have a fun!

  • Hello,

great, I can use my twonky on my OMV server now! I use the x64 version. But the twonky doesnt boot with server start. An Error at boot says Failed to start /etc/rc.local Compatibility .

Maybe a little failure from me.
    Can you help me?
