And I know it should work.

I said that because it does start not working when Debian releases a new minor version of the kernel. So, I thought maybe they had released the 4.8 kernel. When they do, I will have to release a new version of omv-extras.

  • It could be my test setup.
It is a vm setup. I had to revert the snapshot when I screwed up data disk config and it stopped booting. Before that I had kernel 4.7 back port installed on that setup.
So it is surprising that it Will not install now.

Do you not have the backports repo enabled in the omv-extras repo list in the web interface? What is the output of:

  • I am telling you this is freaky, it's like all is enabled and setuped but not working.
I even removed the extras plugin and redownload the files and added back.
    same thing.

funny thing is, I just installed Proxmox Kernels with no issues what so ever.

All of that looks right in the apt-get update output. I have no idea why it is doing this. Just for the hell of it, disable all of the omv-extras repos except for the backports kernel and do an apt clean after that.

firmware-linux is only available in the non-free repo. firmware-linux-free is in the regular repo. Edit the backports repo in omv-extras and add non-free to the end of the Repo #1/Repo line and it should work fine until I can fix this.

  • thanks, was about to post that it did not work but noticed that the file reverted back to original state.
edit it again and did apt-get update, than install kernels. it worked. but when I turn on all the other repos back it reverted back. i.e. no "non-free" part.

edited again. no big deal for this config as it is a test setup, but will know for the future.

Don't edit the file itself. omv-extras will overwrite that as you found. Edit it in the repo tab in omv-extras in omv web interface. That is one of the repos that is not read-only.

    Fixed in omv-extras 3.4.10

BTW, what are the Proxmox repos for?

It lets you install the 4.4LTS Ubuntu 16.04/Proxmox kernel. This is very well tested on Jessie via Proxmox and installs a long term support kernel that some want. Some drivers haven't been ported to newer 4.7/8/9 kernels. To avoid updates from the proxmox repo, it enables the repo, installs the kernel, and disables the repo. So, updates wont show up in the updates tab. You have to click the install proxmox button each time you want to update.
