On my OMV server, I use the Nginx plugin to host NextCloud. Tonight, I tried to upgrade my NextCloud installation to NextCloud 11, but I was greeted with a message stating that I need to upgrade from PHP 5.4 to 5.6, so I started researching the upgrade process. I found these instructions and followed them up to the fifth step, but I am hesitant to proceed any further for fear of screwing something up with my OMV installation. Can I safely install PHP 5.6 without messing up the rest of my currently-working OMV installation?
Upgrade OMV2 to PHP 5.6

Nope. You should upgrade to OMV 3.x. Or better yet, install a fresh copy of OMV 3.x.

This seems to be a common theme anymore whenever I ask questions. Perhaps I should stop trying to avoid it and just make the jump already. Anyway, how does OMV3 handle RTCs on the RPi3? It is my understanding that the configuration process is different from OMV2.

You are right. OMV 2.x is starting show its age as you have discovered.

Not sure. Haven't tried one. I think people have posted on the RPi RTC thread about this.

I have the same issues! Is there a timetable for omv3 release? I fear reinstall of omv3 because of the work I put in my omv2 installation and would therefor prefer an upgrade...

I think it is ready now.
prefer an upgrade
Make a backup before you upgrade...

Thank you! Is there a way to check before if the upgrade will work?

You can practice on a virtual machine. You can back up the current OS drive and go back to a good point if the backup fails.

I have finally given in. I took a backup image using "dd" that I directed to my Samba share. I copied it to my PC for safekeeping, and ran the ever-ominous "omv-release-upgrade". If (when?) the upgrade fails, I will do a fresh install.

I don't recommend upgrading the RPi. It takes forever. Probably longer than any reconfig.
