I was able to fix the error by giving the 'sftp-access' group read/write permissions in the shared folder privileges.
If the shared folder has no privileges set (not sure why the shared folder would even exist then), then there is no privileges section for the shared folder in config.xml causing the error. I will have to look into this but it is low priority.
