Not a professional in that, is OMV safe against the malware?
WannaCry malware threat to OMV?

AFAIK it affects Windows, and it seems that most of those affected were running XP. It shouldn't be a problem if you are up to date with your security updates.

Hi,
AFAIK it affects Windows,
but I am relatively sure that WannCry is able to encrypt your data on an OMV share.
So take care. -

As a IT Professional I personally have worked the last 48 hours dealing with this. it sucks

Yes, I do believe so, that's why I am asking all experts here. I heard QNAP NAS can be affected also...

This malware infects old and unpatched Windows installations so you're affected if you
- have a NAS running old/unpatched Windows (those exist, a couple older NAS rely on Windows XP Embedded)
- have an old/unpatched Windows running with NAS/SAN access to your OMV shares
OMV users are not affected by 1) and can't do anything against 2) on the OMV host since the encryption processes run on the infected Windows machine. So if in doubt simply shutdown your OMV installations and patch your insecure Windows boxes! It's unbelievable that people use unpatched operating systems and especially Windows!

Guys, if you still have not patched your Windows, you should do this now. The WannaCry ransomware is still active. New variant of WannaCry ransomware is able to infect 3,600 computers per hour. If your computer is infected with this virus, don't pay the ransom - many people who have paid Bitcoins don't receive the decryptor. All top security companies are currently working to develop a decryption solution
