ext4 USB drive on Odroid XU4 costantly reports journal error and remounts as read only

  • Hi!

I've been testing the omv_xu3_xu4_3.0.65.img.gz package for about a week now and I'm struggling with my connected USB drive constantly getting remounted as read only.
My setup is a Odroid XU4 with a brand new 2TB 2.5" firecuda drive attached in an USB3 enclosure. The OMV image was dd'd onto a 16GB eMMC card.

So far I've tried to format the drive through the OMV webapp, command line and on my laptop with the same result. I did manage to create a folder on it once and then it went read only again.
I tried fixing the journal as mentioned in this forum post with no luck. Also tried setting the errors=continue option in /etc/fstab.

In my quest for a solution I tried installing OMV_3_0_71_Odroidxu4_4.9.23.7z image to see if a newer kernel would help, but I never got this to boot on my eMMC.

Here is a sample of a dmesg call:

    Code
    [ 2526.040504] [c0] sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] CDB:
    [ 2526.044533] cdb[0]=0x2a: 2a 08 74 44 08 20 00 00 08 00

    [ 2526.057240] [c0] end_request: critical target error, dev sda, sector 1950615584

    [ 2526.514590] [c3] EXT4-fs (sda1): Remounting filesystem read-only

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Hi!

I bought a new SD card and installed the latest Armbian build. Now disks mount as they should. Not sure if it was the Armbian version or the SD card as a system disk that solved this though.
