usbbackup broken

  • Hi,

    I just wanted to make my usual backup by just plugging in my USB3-hard drive, but this time, it failed.

    I plugged in the disc, and in /var/log/daemon.log, you can read, what happened:

    Any idea, what changed with that plugin (I use the most recent version 3.2.18 on openmediavault 3.0.75.1), so that it doesn't automount the backup USB disk anymore, and so cannot start the rsync backup process?

    Thank you very much
    Christoph

    A I am unable to offer a solution I'll offer a what I would do;

    Unplug the USB and plug it back in....if it still doesn't mount, then remove the plugin, then select the apt clean, reboot, then reinstall the plugin and try again.

    It may work, it may not, but it's worth a shot...

  • Unplugging and plugging again does not help. Manual mounting, e.g. to /mnt/cdrom does not help, too.

    I doubt, re-installing the plugin will help, to me it seems, that the plugin itself or the part in OMV, which it uses, is broken :(

    Ok it depends what you are stating as /mnt......from a terminal...ssh lsblk will list the drives on your system....for me when I was testing something else mine was listed as /dev/sdh1 so issuing mount /dev/sdh1 /mnt mounted the drive directly under /mnt. What you should do is to create a directory under mount say Toshiba....so it would be mount /dev/shd1 /mnt/Toshiba and the contents of the drive 'if working' would be viewable. That then eliminates that there is a problem with the drive and the usb port it's connected too.

    Your second statement makes no sense if you haven't tried it, the fact that it is not working this time does not mean mean it's 'broken' with all due respect sometimes you have to try something that in itself seems ridiculous. I had to try an install of a media server only to find that there was an errant parameter within the command line.....because of this the group that maintain it agreed there was an issue that required resolving....so by doing my own investigation hopefully there will be a fix.

  • The backup drive is in good health, I had no problems in mounting it manually (I used /mnt/cdrom as mountpoint).

    The last time, I successfully ran usbbackup was in mid january according to my notes. After that I didn't try it any more, so now it's time :)

  • I've even re-installed the usbbackup-package (before, it was already in the latest version), but it still doesn't autodetect the plugged-in backup disc.

    However, when I manually trigger the backup job in the GUI, it works (though it blocks the GUI for a very long time, until the backup is finished)
