Should I use a secure connection / SSL certificate?

As per the title, should I use a secure connection / SSL certificate?

I'm new to OpenMediaVault, although I've used Linux for years. I've setup OVM on my RaspberryPi 3, and installed all updates. Version listed is 3.0.76 (Erasmus). I'm planning to just use it to share files on my local network, no external access, no port forwarding on my router.

I ask because I've searched around and it seems really complex. If I should, could someone point me toward a guide please? The link on this page is dead.
