I am trying to movie files to my shard folder and whenever I try it says I cant because I do not have premission to read them. I read online that i need to give premissions through acl but that button is grayed out and I can not click it. I created a user acount and gave it read/write premission so I dont know what is wrong. I am very new to this so if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Perhaps post your files permissions here, so others can help you.
cd to your share folder directory, and do type this in: ls -la
Then copy and paste in here. -
what does cd mean?. is this what you want
-
I meant via command line such as in Putty.
CD meant change directory.Whomever user account you gave permissions to, log in as that user to move files.
I assume you talking about share drives on Windows OS.See this guide: https://forum.openmediavault.o…ions-explained-under-OMV/
-
what does cd mean?.

I have a mac and the server is set up to a raspberry pi, so should I type the commond into the raspberry pi? I did sign in with the user account i created and it still doesnt work.
-
My permissions setup work for both Windows and MAC.
Perhaps your permission is messed up somewhere. This guide is for Emby/Plex but it works for any share setup: https://forum.openmediavault.o…Emby-and-PlexMediaServer/

I followed the instructions and all of that was already done. This the specific thing my computer says.

You can delete the share folder, and try again.
Since you're using a MAC, you can connect to the terminal via SSH to OMV, and use ls -la to see the permissions of the files.
0755 is the common permissions. -
It won't let me delete the folder.
-
Ensure there is no service(s) that's using that share folder before you can delete it in OMV GUI.
"Shared Folders In Use' tab in the Shared Folders will tell you which services/folder is using it. -
"Shared Folders In Use' tab in the Shared Folders will tell you which services/folder is using it.
Please be aware: This (for my opinion very useful) tab is only available if the omv-resetperms plugin is installed.
-
How to stop this from using it.
-
Turn off Samba service.
-
Turn off Samba service.
You have to delete the samba share. Otherwise it still thinks it is in use.
-
I got this error when deleting the folder
then it deleted
I made a new folder and that gave me a error and now it give the smae deletion error when I try to delete it. -
You can SSH into OMV as root or sudo user, then remove the DS Store file.'
1. cd /media/..../
2. rm -f ._.DS_Store -
what is the password that should be used to ssh into omv
-
Your user's password.
Ensure you check the SSH option is enabled and other options in OMV web. -
User must be in the SSH group.
If you are using root user the password is either "openmediavault" if you installed an image for ARM devices or the password to gave during installation of OMV from an ISO.
