I'm very new to OMV - barely a day old - and I was able to setup my HDD and file shares, install a DLNA service etc. OMV for now is installed on an Raspberry Pi 2. The HDD is connected to the RPi Model B. I've setup my SMB/CIFS file shares and they are accessed from my Windows and Mac machines. I've observed that the HDD does not spin down if its not being accessed. It stays ON all the time. Under Physical Drives I have set the power usage to be minimum with spindown but it does not look like its happening. Any suggestions on how I can get the HDD to spin down?

For some reason hdparm, which is used by default, does not work always.I tried running hdparm with this to manually set a sleep time of 10 minutes.
And I got this error:Code/dev/sdb1: setting standby to 120 (10 minutes) SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb[]: 70 00 01 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 00 1d 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
When I used the -C flag I get the same error.

That means USB and USB needs 'SCSI / ATA translation' (SAT) for stuff like hdparm/hdidle to work. Obviously the USB-to-SATA bridge in your disk enclosure is too old/crappy to support this (check lsusb output to get the idea which bridge your enclosure is using)
