Reinstall OMV but keep RAID ?

  • I've tried searching and have found various answers so I figured I would ask.

I screwed up my OMV by trying out too many things (I'm new to linux) and wanted to do a fresh install.

But I have a RAID 5 (3*2TB disks) setup that I would like to keep.

Is there any way that I can do a fresh install but keep the RAID and the data on it?

Reinstalling OMV means unplugging the RAID drives. Once finished, you can plug the drives back in and the array will be detected. Mount and recreate the shares exactly as before and it will all be there.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the info guys.

But haha yeah, I got way into OMV and Linux and started trying out all sorts of command lines and installing all sorts of things.

  • I can recommend using virtualbox to test things first on a vm. Esspeccially if you are unexperienced and don't want to mess up your live system.
