Is ZFS supported in Kernel 4.13-4.15?

  • @Blabla Read five posts from here, I asked the same:

Is ZFS supported in Kernel 4.13-4.15?

For me it worked in under 5 seconds.

  • Is here anybody using kernel 4.17 in combination with zfs? Any problems?

It seems to work fine on my test system but that isn't really the best use case. I still think the proxmox kernel is probably the best option if you use zfs.

  • Ok, thanks for confirmation. At the moment I am at backports kernel 4.16.

There are always little changes for my digital devices dvb tuner card from kernel 4.13 to kernel 4.17. So I would like to use kernel 4.17 to get most stability and most features for my dvb card.

But maybe the proxmox kernel 4.15 holds the most relevant changes I need. Will check that.

    Thank you!

Because it is the Ubuntu 18 LTS kernel, it might have the changes backported to it.

I'm using 4.17 with the ZFS 4.0.4 plugin, on my backup, but it's only been running for a week. (To be fair, that's not long enough to detect something subtle.) Given @ryecoaaron 's tweaks, I'm considering the proxmox kernel when I update my primary server.

I'm somewhat surprised to find; with OMV4 - Kernel 4.17 and the ZFS 4.0.4 plugin, that a ZFS mirror is running well on an Atom D525 processor with 4GB RAM. That's certainly not fast hardware.

I still have a bit of testing to do, but it looks pretty good so far.

I had a look for a changelog.. all I could find is this: https://git.proxmox.com/?p=pve-kernel.git;a=summary

Just bare in mind that the D525 doesn't have ECC.

You would need to look at the changelog for Ubuntu instead of proxmox.

In which case, there's a ton of that here:

Should be easy to find stuff then :D

So it's the latest 4.15, right?

    Yep.

  • I got all excited then for a minute.. I thought Proxmox might offer some kind of livepatch, but their solution is to use Kernel Care ;(

This would be another win if OMV moved to Ubuntu. Canonical allow you to register 3 systems for free. That's probably one of the best automagic offerings going.

  • Hi Guys i did a fresh install and upgrade to 4.17 but can not get zfs plugin installed any tips?

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

  • @ArmandH is contrib in your sources? :)

Actually, that error also looks like your backports isn’t enabled... but it must be if you have the 4.17 kernel.

Can you post your sources please? Don’t forget the OMV ones too.

  • Hi, I need to turn off my NAS for some days, should I install the new 4.17 kernel or is better to remain with the 4.16?
