A few things...
- The sssd plugin is nowhere near complete. It won't help you do anything right now.
- If you have the files on a data drive, they are mounted noexec so you can't build the plugin on there
- If you don't have the files on a data drive, debian/rules is probably doesn't have the executable bit set.

No, always install Plugins via the webinterface. The Plugins you found may not work on your Version of OpenMediaVault or are from the unstable Repo and can screw up your System.
so i am done with this and take a look at the other things inside omv.
btw. i am glad to hear that a plugin for the AD intergration is "near complete"
