I wonder where tu put my money on: RAM vs CPU vs ?

Depends on what you are going to do with the server. If you are just using it as a file server, it doesn't need much of either.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

  • Hello,

    - Server use will be a 24/7 nas+nextcloud+deluge+mumble+forum server. Pool of users will be around 10 for the nas+nextcloud. For mumble+forum its around 70+ user for mumble. Forum is not completely fixed but will be like SMF or BBorad or phpBased.

    - Server will be in my sister office ( architect office, 4 laptops and 2 desktop win10 (daily snaptshot backup), a ton of autocad files, sketch-up and cleraviewfocus) . Behind a SG-4860 psf firewall. it will be also use a a print server.
    - Will be use as the main nas. Nightly backup on a 2012 Qnap TS-419P II ( Just upgrade with 4*WD Red WD80EFZX. maxup for capacity )
    - 2 jail needed for deluge and mumble+forum.
    - network is FTTH 1GO/1GO.

Building will be zfs raid6 encrypted . Quota used for nas partition/users.

CPU choice is mostly driven by a good value choice:
    - equilibrium between pricing and perf. Brand new stuff not needed. But good perf ration over pricing. AMD based so far as Intel is clearly expensive for that kind of machine.
    RAM choice same politic.
    - ECC non ECC is not really important.

  • thank you.

    - Sorry. Jail is equivalent to docker in freenas...

    - About 99.99% sure transcoding won't be necessary.

    - Encryption is not a must have, but in case of maintenance ( got a 3ys rma for the ironwolf ), I just send the faulty hdd back worryless about privacy.

    - my provider gets 16GO DDR4 ram price ECC/NonECC 250EUR/140EUR ! Quiet a difference!

    I'll check your hardware too.
