OMV4 with XENserver

  • I run OMV3 latest right now and thinking about moving to a hypervisor on my rig. I chose XEN (I did some testing with HyperV, but did not like it anyways).

Will it be possible and reasonable to passthrough my 3 SATA drives to the OMV Installation to use as Raid5? I can't add them to XENs native drives to be available for mounting. My OS drive is a SSD, which is the drive for XEN and the VMs. I'm thinking of another SSD to separate VMs and XEN as well, if possible.

    Any suggestions?

  • I love xenserver, but have been using hyper-v lately as it's easy in a single server setup. You can pass disks through in xenserver but it's not as easy. You have to do some command line stuff. It's been a while since I looked at it, but it can be done.

  • I found some articles regarding the passthrough, I am a litte concerned about my Raid created with these passed through disks would produce all sorts of freaky errors. Rebuild would be another factor.

I use passed through disks on Proxmox and ESXi (including raid) and it works well.

Yes. The free version can even be used for business use. You just need to register on the vmware site for a free license.

When I registered, I didn't have a job at that moment. I put my name in that field. That is not fake information.
