Install OMV on MacPro 1.1 is it possible ?

  • Hi everybody.....I 'm trying to find a way to install OMV on MacPro 1.1.....You know that "Beast"??? Why not....lol

But i do not want to go the installation via the Debian & packages way....

I know that the EFI is 32 bits....but the OS X install is 64 bits on my system only the EFI is 32 bits

I install a Debian 64 on it.....but would like to know if it's possible to install directly without the hassle of going with packages

    Thanks !!

There is no uefi support on the OMV iso. If you can install Debian (8 for OMV 3, 9 for OMV 4), then you can install OMV on it.

    omv 7.0-32 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.9 | compose 7.0.9 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github

  • MacPro 1.1 ??? no uefi?? well it's date of 2006 lol ???

Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) est une interface logicielle présente sur la majorité des ordinateurs récents (depuis 2010).

What Debian version iso could start on it without problem....

  • @macoslog I'm happy to see your machine. It gives me some ideas on what I could do with a similar machine I have. Can you please comment on how you installed Debian and you can PM me as well, if you'd like. That's a great machine. How is it work
ing anyway for you? There was mention a while back that those use up a lot of electricity. Is that your experience?

  • There was mention a while back that those use up a lot of electricity. Is that your experience?

Experiences? It's a known fact that using such power hungry old devices is stupid for NAS use cases. If you happen to use the 'wrong' graphic card these things waste up to 200W doing exactly nothing. https://support.apple.com/HT201796

NAS Performance is the same as a ROCK64, EspressoBin, HC1 or HC2 (less than 5W in idle with disks spun down).

  • debian-mac-9.3.0-amd64-netinst.iso from this link...https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release/current/amd64/iso-cd/

What is a mac netinst image?
The mac netinst CD here is a special version of the netinst CD image that is targeted specifically at older 64-bit Intel Macintosh machines. It will likely work on most other amd64 machines too, but it does not contain UEFI boot files that some people need. See the Debian Wiki for more information.

    also need this...

    The rEFInd Boot Manager

But it's a real pain to install.....

Windows 10 work perfectly on it too......Just need to install it on a HDD drive in a pc....then you put in in a Mac Pro lol et voilà...lol

But i hate Windows so...lolI just wish that i could install OMV server on this without smashing my head on the wall....lol

Geee!!! we can install it on a rasberrypi....but cannot easily on old mac...lol

also electricity wise...it's much more hungry than HC2...but with my solar panel install...Well you know... lol...

  • Ya right...lol

But my system will eventually cost less than buying electricity from Hydro-Quebec who sell it to Americans at 25% rebate vs us Canadians?? Grrrrr !!!??? Even our oil is sold to US at 30% rebate....then Esso (Exxon)....Valero...(Ultramar) selling us to Canada at 50% premium plus taxes...No wonder Canadians get ....S.c.r.e.w.e.d!!

  • But for now my Mac Pro 1.1 has Mac OS X ElCapitan install on it with Linux Mint and Windows 10 on triple boot....It's flexible for my need....and i can still use that old machine on my solar energy.....

    Have a great week end!!

Uhh... I accidentally put a u on the efi out of habit. To me, uefi and efi are basically the same thing and a mac uses efi.

And you need to cut down on the advertising. You posted on this thread about an odroid hc2 but an odroid hc1 on another thread.
