odroid orange eMMC as of October 2017

  • It is my understanding that the OMV_3_0_92_Odroidxu4_4.9.61.img.xz image for the Odroid XU4 requires a multi step process using a microSD for putting the OMV image on the eMMC module because the uboot "partition" is incorrect and has be up dated.

My question is. . . Does the Orange eMMC Odroid Samsung 5.1 chipset PCB Rev 0.4 that was released in October 2017, have the proper uboot "partition" to directly place the OMV_3_0_92_Odroidxu4_4.9.61.img.xz image on the eMMC without needing the microSD card approach?

The Odroid wiki Orange eMMC compatibility status with XU4 series OS images lists the OMV --- OMV_3_0_92_Odroidxu4_4.9.61 --- as OK.

    Thank you

Yep, Justin from Hardkernel confirmed this in November. Last OMV image for ODROIDs was only released for the upcoming orange eMMC to save you from hassles :)

BTW: the u-boot partition thing is something differently (this was addressed by Hardkernel in mid 2017 already. Since then every u-boot on their eMMC was able to cope with an ext4 boot partition too which is needed by Armbian/OMV). The issue affecting the orange eMMC was some timing stuff in the kernel and we chose to release a last upgrade since this timing stuff was responsible for some data corruption on every 20th boot or something like that. That's stuff to better avoid :)
