USB Backup working in 4.1.5?

  • Newly built system...just continuing with now getting my USB drive set back up.
But, the external drive isn't being seen. No syslog messages, not listed in File Systems. When I go to set the Backup up, the dropdown to select the USB Backup drive is empty.

Is this maybe a known issue right now? (did a quick search and didn't find anything)

  • on my system OMV 4.1.5 it works without problems. I think it is not a problem with the usb backup plugin. You must see the disk on the OMV disks menue. Plug it out and on perhaps on a different port. Or meybe your disk need a externel power supply.

  • Yea, I've power cycled the external enclosure for the drive...and tried simply unplugging the USB cable and re-plugging.
So....I need to work on getting the USB drive recognized in the UI first then. Thanks.

  • Okay....so I apparently have an issue how with the PCI-USB3 card in the OMV box after going from 2.x to 4.x (fresh install of 4.x, not upgraded). So, I just connected the external drive using a USB2 port on the OMV system and it now sees the external drive.

    Next problem though:
After seeing the new drive, I select to mount it. Here's the resultant syslog after doing this:

After that, I go into the USBBackup plugin and select a Shared Folder to manually backup. I get the little warning window and accept.
This is then what shows up in syslog after trying this: (The File Systems section then shows that the USB drive has been unmounted. This is 100% repeatable)

  • Please change the disk label from "New Volume" to e.g. "NewVolume" (Remove the blank). There are issues with NTFS formatted drives and label name with a space.

  • Okay...changed the name and retried the manual USB backup. Different error.

Only entry in syslog now is this:

  • Different error.

The "x20" before "Volume" in the exception message suggests that there is still a prefixed blank somewhere. Did you have data on the USB disk? Otherwise you could try to format the drive once again.

  • Where else would I look for a blank space?
And yes, the USB drive does have data on it....it was also used as the USB backup drive when the system was running 2.x. I just assumed that after the installation of 4.x that I could re-use the drive w/o modification on the new system. No?

  • I've connected the USB drive to a Windows system. The drive name no longer has any whitespace nor do any of the root level directories of the existing files.
