error with apt upgrade

  • Hello,
    apt upgrade shows this:

    Code
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/sbin/omv-mkaptidx", line 163, in <module> "md5sum": pkg.candidate.md5,
    File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apt/package.py", line 758, in md5 return self._records.md5_hash
SystemError: error return without exception set
    Reading package lists... Done

It looks something like the weakref.py bug I've been reading on the forum but I haven't found any specific solution to this yet.

checking for update via omv returns similar errors if I enable backports, not sure this is related.

any hint to solve the errors?

You have the sid-backports repo enabled and it doesn't exist. You need to remove it from whatever .list file you added it to. If you are running on sid, then that is bad.

  • I had this on openmediavault-kernel-backports.list

    Code
    deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian sid-backports main contrib non-free

but now it is disabled (openmediavault-kernel-backports.list.save)

how do I check if I'm running on sid?

    What is the output of
    lsb_release -a
    cat /etc/apt/sources.list

    not good, right? :(

    not good, right?

    Correct.

deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian/ testing non-free contrib main

When you added this line, this caused the system to upgrade. I would reinstall fresh and don't add that line again. I really wouldn't add deb-multimedia either. If you need newer libraries for some reason, use a docker.

did I hit the python bug this time?
I'm trying to edit as suggested here

    PS
btw I didn't add any line on source.list, weird...
    thanks for your help

did I hit the python bug this time?

Yes but it has never caused me any problems. That thread has the fix though.

btw I didn't add any line on source.list,

Something other than OMV did then.

do you know what has happened to the subsonic plugin?

That plugin (like the other downloader plugins) was not ported to OMV 4.x (and most likely won't be ported) in favor of using docker. This thread is very helpful - OMV + Docker plugin media server (Plex, PlexPy, Ombi, Libresonic, NZBGet, ruTorrent, Sonarr, Radarr, Mylar, and more)
