Error-Free ZFS?

  • I am coming from freenas and have followed many guides from the forum for getting zfs working. I haven't been able to get an install working without errors coming up all over the place. Is ZFS not mature on omv yet, should I use something else instead?

    Example errors:
    - monit errors
    - weakref.py errors
    - unable to apply changes via webui

    monit errors

This is not related to zfs and only started with 4.1.8 and fixed in 4.1.8.1.

    weakref.py errors

This is a known python bug that doesn't affect anything. if you don't like it, there is a thread with a fix for the python file.

unable to apply changes via webui

Need more info than that. Have you watched the videos in the pinned video thread?

should I use something else instead?

Do you mean other than OMV or other than zfs? I use ext4 and xfs myself.

  • Yes I have watched the videos, and I mean't other than ZFS.

I just did a fresh re-install following [[HOWTO] Instal ZFS-Plugin & use ZFS on OMV]

Here is what I just did (all commands executed as root):

    • install OMV 4.x using 4.1.3 iso
    • install omv-extras with: wget -O - http://omv-extras.org/install | bash
    • enable omv-extras testing repo in the Repo tab of omv-extras in the web interface
    • apt-get update
    • apt-get dist-upgrade
    • apt-get clean
    • reboot with 4.16 kernel
    • Remove 4.14 kernel with apt-get purge linux-image-4.14.0-0.bpo.3-amd64
    • Install zfs plugin with apt-get install openmediavault-zfs (compile seems to move faster than installing via the web interface)
    • echo "zfs" > /etc/modules-load.d/zfs.conf (probably need to add this to the plugin)
    • reboot

    Everything seems to be working.

and I got more errors like "dpkg-architecture: command not found".

and when I try to change the default webui timeout to 30min

The timeout problem is monit related. Did you reboot or manually start monit (systemctl start monit)?

I got more errors like "dpkg-architecture: command not found"

This never affected my testing previously. I will have to test again but apt-get install dpkg-dev should remove what I considered a warning.
