Plex Docker update problem, no video playable

  • Hi,

I followed the guide and changed the INSTALL filed (but I think it was the right one), I did loggued once

Still stuck on 1.13.4.5271 instead of 1.13.5.5291

I cant' play any video though, seems a problem of transcode ? (but I prefer to update first)

    Thanks

  • Post a screen shot of your container's Environment variables.

  • You should be using VERSION latest

The mechanism to update is to restart the container. Clear the container log, then restart the container, wait a bit and look at the log to see what happened. It is not fully up and running until you see a line beginning with "Server startup complete." Also, no update will occur on the first run of the container because there is no token loaded yet. And to get the token you have to log the server into your plex account.

Your format to use a specific version is incorrect. For the version you want it should be: 1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8

    What does "I'm loggued" mean?

Post a screenshot of the upper right hand corner of your browser when it is connected to your Plex like I am showing here.

  • Sorry,

This means I was loguued into plex with my plex account,

I finally found why, I had to claim my server in settings so that my token could be write into preferences.xml

but no files could be playable either

transcode is good with empty field ?

  • Transcode might work with an empty Host path, but I do not and would not run it that way, so I can't say for sure.

Does any of your media appear with artwork in your Plex Libraries?

Are the permissions and ownerships of all your media files compatible with the user and group Plex is running as?

Have you actually created any Libraries in Plex?

You really are not providing anywhere near enough information. Just saying things don't work is not enough.

  • I did all the things already ;) followed the manual

  • I can't provide any additional help. You might consider taking your problem to the Plex.tv forum, but they may not support you unless you are running their official docker, not the linuxserver.io one.

  • Do be sure that whatever drive you have your /config Host pat set to has the exec flag set, or the transcoder will not run.

  • Thing is, am I the only one who have such difficulties to setup Plex in Dockers?

I follow every guide but really can't have this transcode working....

  • Docker or plugin, it does not matter. If the location of the transcoders (Host path for /config) is not on a drive that has exec capability, it will not work.

  • Is it normal that the container upgrade multiple times ? Each time I make modification to the settings, I get :

    Code
    Attempting to upgrade to: 1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8

    Unpacking plexmediaserver (1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8) over (1.13.4.5271-200287a06) ...

    EDIT :

    No OMV_FSTAB_MNTOPS_EXT4= in /etc/default/openmediavault

I realy think it's not a plex related problem but more an OMV/DOcker problem because indeed, I can't run any transcode

    EDIT2 :

    solved here

Some docker containers don't like it when fstab is noexec

people developping this plugin should really add this in a guide :/

I think I'm not the only one here who have experience this ?

  • Is it normal that the container upgrade multiple times ? Each time I make modification to the settings, I get :

Yes. It could be because there happens to be a newer version of the server available each time, or more likely, the container's "default" Plex version is a constant (in your case: 1.13.4.5271-200287a06). You can upgrade to a newer version, but when certain things change, the container reverts back to its default version and then has to upgrade again. It seems the "proper" way to update your applications is actually to not upgrade using their own internal update method, but to upgrade the entire container either manually or using Watchtower which automates the process.

So you have been able to resolve all problems as of now?

  • Hi, yes thanks

Ok, will wait till the next update.

Yes, you should maybe add in your guide

    • claim server to add the token and be able to update
    • Add exec to the drive for transcoding.
