Share folder has very slow transfer speed

  • I have rock64 single board computer with openmediavault
    I use hdd (Ext4) connected to usb3 port (also i try to use usb3 flash memory)
    I share hdd folder through afp smb ftp protocols. Transfer speed is very slow about 10mb/s
    I use mac with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test with afp also i try windows computer with smb but i have same result
    How i can find bottle neck?

  • This is not even Fast Ethernet (90 Mbits/sec) so obviously you're testing Wi-Fi and your interconnection is slow.

    Some ideas on how to find the bottleneck in no specific order:


    Disconnect everything. Carefully reconnect everything.


    Check the switch. Is it a gigabit switch? Has it worked OK like a gigabit switch in other transfers?


    Disconnect everything else from the switch, that may cause traffic, and see if that helps.


    Replace the network cables. Preferably use short cables that are certified at least cat 6 and worked fine in other transfers.


    Replace the USB cables. Make sure to use USB3 cables.


    Replace one of the nodes at a time and see if you get higher speeds using another node.


    Change the file systems and transfer protocols used and see if that helps. Try ext4 and nfs (possibly using other nodes) and verify that you get gigabit speeds.


    Change the NICs one at a time and see if that helps.

    Be smart - be lazy. Clone your rootfs.
