OMV extra - plexmediaserver plugin not found

  • I have followed the omv extra guide to install plex via the repo in omv extra, omv extra installed is openmediavault-omvextrasorg_latest_all4.deb, however when I enable the plex repo the page does not apply the settings. Checking in the plugins results in no plexmediaserver plugin being found.

It was suggested to use docker instead, but the same issue happens when trying to install the docker plugin via the Docker CE repo.

It was suggested that this could be related to a DNS issue, however I am able to ping google.com.

When running apt-get update i get the following output there are a lot of Ign:

Towards the end of this output there it seems that some server certificate fails: -

E: Failed to fetch https://dl.bintray.com/openmediavault-plugin-developers/arrakis-docker/dists/stretch/main/binary-amd64/Packagesserver certificate verification failed. CAfile: /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt CRLfile: none

Any help would be appreciated on this issue.

  • I have also tried to check for updates in the "Update Management" tab, however I get the following error:-

This is a cert issue on your system. I have seen this plenty of times but still don't know what causes it or what fixes it.

    What is the output of:

    sudo update-ca-certificates

If no certs are updated then maybe (this hasn't worked before though):
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall ca-certificates

    omv 7.0-32 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.9 | compose 7.0.9 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

  • Thanks for the response.

I ran sudo update-ca-certificates and got the following outputs: -

    Code
    # sudo update-ca-certificates
    Updating certificates in /etc/ssl/certs...
    0 added, 0 removed; done.
    Running hooks in /etc/ca-certificates/update.d...
    done.

I tried to check for updates again but get the same cert error.

I get the following output with sudo apt-get install --reinstall ca-certificates but no change in behaviour.

Do you have any further insights into a resolution for this issue? Is this cert issue only apparent on OMV 4.x?

As I mentioned before, I don't know what causes this or how to fix it. It is not an OMV issue. It just affects some Debian and Ubuntu systems. You could search the web more but most of the suggestions on how to fix do not fix it.

  • I figured it out. The clock of my NAS was set to 14th November 2016, as certs are time sensitive this was causing the issue, I resolved it by installing ntp to synchronise my NAS to a time server.

For anyone else experiencing this issue these are the steps I took to resolve: -

    • Check whether date is out of sync using on the OMV machine using the date command from the terminal
    • Install ntp sudo apt-get install ntp
    • Edit /etc/ntp.conf with the closest server to your country. The server lists can be found here
    • Once edited you will need to restart ntp service ntp restart
    • Check the date command again you should now see the correct date
    • Go to OMV web GUI
    • Select update management
    • Tick all and update
    • Reinstall omvextras
    • Repos should now work
