Using OMV with Windows 10 Pro and Virtual machine

  • I would like to know if I can run OMV in a virtual environment on a PC that already has Windows 10 Pro installed. I have a PC in the basement and would like to be able to continue using it as a Windows 10 PC. However, it is only utilized maybe 4 hours a month. Therefore I thought it would be a good option for using OMV and creating a household NAS. I came real close to buying a Synology DS918+ this week but have since zeroed in on OMV.

    Is OMV, operating in a virtual machine environment, an acceptable means for me to create a NAS?

    Thanks, Kai :thumbup:

    Current OMV5.3.4-1 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: ASRock AB350Pro4 Mobo, AMD A8-9600 Bristol Ridge Quad-Core 3.1 GHz, 16GB Ram, Kingston A400 120GB SSD, WD Blue 4TB HDD

    Backup OMV5 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (always latest build) Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz 8GB ram; OMV 5.0-amd64 Linux Debian running virtual via VirtualBox v5.2.22
    DATA Backup - Two sets of identical backups using GoodSync 1-way backup onto 2 external drives.

  • Well, I think after waiting and doing some research I have decided to scratch this concept. I think it best to build a separate box. I'll head over to the hardware / motherboards forum and ask a few questions there. Thanks for looking at my thread even though I didn't follow through.

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.4 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4
