Just to let you know (assume this is appropriate) that I have just upgraded to version 0.5.0.24 without any issues and I am running the plex media server as well without any issues. 
Thanks to the developers for a darn good job!

+1...upgraded from 0.4.33 to 36, ran the clean-up script, rebooted, ran the omv-release command, 4 minutes later 0.5.6. Smooth a silk.
p.s. I like the flat-black gui icons...i'm a simple man i guess!
p.s.s I also did everthing via Putty since my OMV box is headless.

I to have done a successfull upgrade to 0.5.6.
ran the cleanup script - got an error.
Did the upgrade.
Ran the cleanup script again and everything worked fine.
