Migrating Partition / Drives

  • Problem:

I Installed my System on three drives:

    • System (1 TB, used 10 GB),
    • Data (1,8 TB, used 1TB) and
    • Backup (via rsync, same sizes like Data).

a little similar to Optimizing OMV on QNAP TS-221 ... but with another issue to migrate userdata and systemconf

Now I want to get rid of the System drive (for energy saving issues and reducing failure possibilities), take a fresh 4TB Drive, put System and Data on one drive and take a fresh drive for Backup.

Is there a Way to copy / migrate the drives without messing up the configuratio, rsync entries, plugins?

    My Plan is:

    • Clone(zilla) the System-Drive to a new 4TB
    • A little Partition-Magic to resize the System Partition and create a new data partition
    • Start System from the new drive, copy old data
    • ?( Problem: How do I switch (old-) data-drive to (new-) data-partition with preserving the old Entries in rsync, plugins, batches
    • ?( same Problem with backup

Or is it better to start from the scratch with a new install?
