URGENT HELP NEEDED - a device got unmounted now I can't remount it

  • I was working inside OMV and then I logged off (HOWEVER, I may have selected SHUTDOWN by mistake instead of Log Off. I can't recall.). Now I can't get a device remounted so I can access my SMB files. PLEASE HELP.

    Thanks, Kai

Current OMV5.3.4-1 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: ASRock AB350Pro4 Mobo, AMD A8-9600 Bristol Ridge Quad-Core 3.1 GHz, 16GB Ram, Kingston A400 120GB SSD, WD Blue 4TB HDD

Backup OMV5 OPERATING ENVIRONMENT: Windows 10 Pro 64bit (always latest build) Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz 8GB ram; OMV 5.0-amd64 Linux Debian running virtual via VirtualBox v5.2.22
DATA Backup - Two sets of identical backups using GoodSync 1-way backup onto 2 external drives.

  • Whaaaat??? I'm not even using a Red drive, Odroid, etc.! I'm using OMV in a virtual machine for experimenting purposes before a NAS build takes place.

  • Folks - - - All I'm trying to do is be a legitimate forum participator. I don't seek confrontations and I don't seek attitudes. All I want out of my forum participation is assistance. That's all. Hopefully some day when I get better at OMV I hope I can participate better and help others. One of the reasons I chose OMV was because of internet reviews that spoke of how nice the OMV community is. That's why I'm here.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to get the device re-mounted? I think that is why I cannot access files in SMB shared folders. Everything was working fine until I possibly did a Shutdown by mistake. Now I have a device where the Mount button is grayed out.

I just got through reading some posts by moderator "ryecoaaron" but I'm not understanding how to send information to the forum for assistance.

Well, I'm giving up for the night. I've exhausted my level of expertise. :) Maybe someone can help me tomorrow. It's late here. 11:00pm CDT

  • Okay folks, here's where I am at. I'm certain I'm the one that screwed up my OMV virtual install by carelessly exiting from the OMV Control Panel. I found that I could not even create a new share. I screwed up something big time. But, I still think all I think I did was exit poorly when inside Control Panel. So, I decided to wipe everything out and do a completely new virtual install of OMV. Now everything is ready to set up shared drives via SMB. That will be my main use of OMV. However, I have other things I want to learn.

Also, I am putting all my eggs in the OMV basket after deciding not to buy Synology or QNAP or using FreeNAS. Sometime in the next two weeks I will donate $10.00. That's all I can afford right now. The moderators will see I'm not bluffing. BUT - I will do my best to do more next year because the forum is much better than paying some high end IT guy. I could never afford that guy anyway. :) I want this setup to work for me. I need it on my home network. Thanks ahead of time for being patient with me.

In closing, thanks for creating OMV.
